Kyriaki, which has some surprising artefacts, before returning to Sarakina.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1204\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Deliana.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1204\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1204\" src=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Deliana-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Deliana\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/main\/domains\/thepaleochorasite.com\/public_html\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Deliana-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/main\/domains\/thepaleochorasite.com\/public_html\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Deliana.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deliana<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 3km walk up to Stavros, combined with an ascent of Kastri (meaning \u201cfortress\u201d or \u201ccastle\u201d)<br \/>\ncould make a day in itself.\u00a0 The surfaced road, signed from just south of Sarakina, climbs, twists and turns, passing the former village school, the views widening with ascent gained, before ending in a small &#8216;platea&#8217; with a nearby church (Ag. Konstantinou &amp; Eleni), water if you need it, and some fierce-sounding dogs.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1205\" style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kastri-Mt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1205\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1205\" src=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kastri-Mt.jpg\" alt=\"Kastri Mt\" width=\"576\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/main\/domains\/thepaleochorasite.com\/public_html\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kastri-Mt.jpg 576w, https:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/main\/domains\/thepaleochorasite.com\/public_html\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Kastri-Mt-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kastri Mt<\/p><\/div>\n<p>To continue, follow the track out of Stavros, always uphill, before forking left, steadily up to reach a &#8216;col&#8217;, with a tiny white shrine.\u00a0 The climb to Kastri will take around 30 minutes, rather less to descend, although it seems steeper.\u00a0 There&#8217;s no path, easiest way is to keep to rocky ground directly ahead, then swinging left to the summit, 820m, marked by a surveying pillar.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1209\" style=\"width: 354px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Scan0001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1209\" class=\"wp-image-1209 \" src=\"http:\/\/thepaleochorasite.com\/bobsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Scan0001-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"At the top! Try &amp; guess the year!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 360-degree panorama is, in my opinion at least, the best in this area.\u00a0 Spread a map out, and identify many landmarks in SW Crete\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 Gavdos island, the White Mountain fringes, many \u201cExplore\u201d locations such as Sklavopoula, Agias Zinas, Yrtakina, Spina Gorge, Kandanos, the Turkish fort above Spaniakos, and the masts above Paleochora.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1210\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a and of course Sarakina, where in an hour or so&#8217;s time, you could be relaxing in the shady cafe with cold refreshing drinks, reflecting on the climb.<\/p>\n<p>To complete a \u201cnap hand\u201d
